Firstly, Thank You for organising such a fantastic Wedding Day for us.
As far as the wedding goes…..where do I start??

I suppose the beginning is the best! I wanted to write quite a detailed account of our experience because, during the planning stage of our wedding I struggled to find any really relevant reviews of our chosen location. Hopefully this will help any couples embarking on a Destination Wedding in Zante, particularly when considering Vardioli in Kypseli as the venue.

When we booked our holiday to Zante, we tried to book our wedding through the travel company. After several hours on the phone to call centres I absolutely knew I could not put such an important day of our lives in the hands of staff who had never even heard of our hotel, let alone the wedding facilities.

Then we found you!! Immediately we relaxed as you gave us guidance on the legal requirements, dates to complete documents and the choices of venue, ceremony and reception. I can honestly say that from your first e-mail the whole experience has been fantastic. Most importantly you gave us a confirmed wedding date which our travel company was unable to do.

We arrived in Zante on Sunday afternoon and had a meeting booked with Frances for 11am the following day. Being a bit of a control freak myself, we attended the meeting armed with questions, uncertainties and more questions! We spent almost 2 hours with Frances and I cannot believe the detail that had been communicated. Some of guests had babies and she had the correct number of high chairs plus the vegetarian meal we had requested. We left the meeting (having asked no questions whatsoever!) and called in a local bar for a drink. Stephen and I let out a massive sigh of relief and knew then that we could not be in better hands. We had absolutely nothing to do except relax, get a suntan and be ready on the day.

The following Monday our Wedding Day arrived and we had a really relaxed morning around the pool. The hairdresser, Kate, arrived at 1pm and I had a lovely afternoon getting ready with the bridesmaids. Meanwhile, Stephen was greeting our 40 guests who had no idea where they were going (we decided secret location was best!). Their only instruction was to be ready for collection by coach at 5pm.

Frances collected me, my Dad, Stephen’s Mum and the bridesmaids and drove us to the Vardioli. I couldn’t believe my eyes when we arrived! Lukas (photographer), Michelle (videographer) and the Greek Serenaders (fantastic!) were all waiting at the car. Then I saw the decorated chairs, the arch and the beautiful flowers set against a magnificent backdrop of a small beach and clear blue sea. It really was like a dream; Stephen was waiting, ready for the ceremony and the guests were totally blown away by the setting.

The ceremony was short but perfect and photographs followed whilst our guests enjoyed a relaxed drink at the private beach bar. We then cut the cake and everyone sat down to dinner. The Meze meal we chose was fantastic and so much more in quality and quantity than we had expected. The Greek live band started to play and the Greek dancers appeared! Next, it was time for our first dance which was lovely and as the song ended the lights and music stopped. In perfect timing the fireworks started – our last surprise for the many guests that had travelled to spend the day with us. Even my Grandad who is 84 and has been all over the world was completely speechless!

The disco (Andy was great!!) started at about 9pm and the whole party was dancing well into the night. We were collected by coach at about 12.30am when sadly, the day was over.

Your attention to detail in the UK was fantastic and Frances never took her eye off the ball for one second during our lovely day. We just cannot thank you all enough.

Dear Lisa,

I just wanted to write to say a huge THANK YOU for organising the most amazing wedding for us. When Leyton and I got engaged in February, we knew we wanted to do something different but we weren't sure what. After much searching and discussion we decided upon the Ladies Pavilion - Central Park - New York. Our wedding last Tuesday was amazing, more that we could have ever wished for. We want to thank you for everything you did back in England - for all the emails we initially sent (I felt very high maintenance!!) - for all you reassuring replies and for organising everything for us. The flowers were perfect, exactly as the photo I sent. Catarina was great as the co-ordinator in New York, she made everything run so smoothly, we didn't need to worry about a thing. She helped to keep the public as bay during the ceremony and helped to hold all our belongings during the photos. Wendy the photographer was great and we can't wait to get our photos sent through. Susanna made the ceremony so beautiful, the words she read touched everyone's hearts and she has kindly said that she will mail us a copy to keep. She was also very helpful before the wedding whilst sorting out our personal vows . We can't thank you enough for helping us experience this most amazing wedding day. It's a day we'll never forget.

Visit to Florence, Italy

This weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to Florence in Italy, I was a guest at the JoySposi wedding show, an amazing collection of top end wedding suppliers all gathered in Stazione Leopolda a beautiful building in the heart of Florence. Dark and imposing it lends itself to a magical setting for creative wedding specialists to display their fantastic and varied collection of work.

One wedding planner went as far as recreating the tea party scene from Alice in wonderland, an eclectic mix of bright coloured tea sets, vintage cups and random ornaments, even a grass covered floor to stand on with creative lighting to add atmosphere. The wedding planner admitted that she had never been lucky enough to find a client adventurous enough to want such a set up but she felt like being very creative and this was one of her favourite books.

An area was set aside where you could learn to make pasta from a very theatrical and amusing chef. You even got to take home your pasta as a reward... if you were brave enough that is.

What impressed me most is the set up. I'm not a fan of wedding fayres in general I tend to find them a bit mechanical, almost corporate. The atmosphere of the wedding is lost in an overwhelming attempt to make a sale. Weddings are about emotion and excitement. Most people only do this once and they will remember the experience good or bad for the rest of their lives.

JoySposi went to great lengths to create an atmospheric wedding experience mixed with a classy stylish evening lounge bar to relax in. Serving beautiful dishes and a great selection of wines and cocktails all at very reasonable prices, there wasn't a cheese toasty in sight.

The fashion shows were a work of art, beautiful models in white Afro wigs presented the collection of Marina Mansanta very elegantly to James Bond theme tunes.

The show also offered classes by industry leaders to both wedding professionals and brides that needed extra help with their wedding plans.

During my two days at the show I met with over 50 suppliers eager to tell us about their service and how they love to work with foreign couples. Although I didn't get to see much of Florence I did get to sample some of the delights; like the food, the Italian charm and I did manage a bit of shopping at a local craft market. I'll soon be heading back to Florence too see and sample some of the local venues and food of course. I can't wait! a new destination to discover.

I do want to add that I dragged along (kicking and screaming) my husband and 16 month old daughter Olympia. It was our first time travelling abroad together and as my clients with children will know that can be quite daunting (toddlers and planes don't go well together) However she was an absolute star, never moaned once and kept the passengers on the hot and stuffy transfer bus from Pisa to Florence entertained with her dazzling smile, even though she was hot tired and rather fed up. Matt my husband will be writing up his experience of Florence with a toddler for anyone thinking of travelling there soon.

Hi Lisa,

At last I can get back to you!! It has just been manic for us since we got back early Friday morning. I have been working and we have had to fit in several family visits too. We had the first week at the Aresti Villas & then the second week at Alykanas Village.

Anyway, so the news you want to know, how did the wedding go? I don't know how much to tell you really so just a brief run down and if you need to know anything else then please just ask!

It was so perfect just the 6 of us, so relaxed and friendly and we all had a lovely time. It was very simple and uncomplicated just as we wanted. We had a super day, the weather was great, not too hot & no rain! After the ceremony & long session of photos we went onto the Aresti Piano Bar and they had set up a pretty table with flowers, decorations & a bottle of bubby even though we didn't arrange anything so that was really lovely. The restaurant was empty too so we had it all to ourselves which was an unexpected surprise.

So to sum it up it was all exactly as we had hoped and imagined and was the perfect day! Thank you so much for helping to arrange it all!

I have attached a few photos for you and a few more in another email and can send more should you need them, hope you like them.

Thanks again & I will be recommending you to anyone who might consider marrying abroad!

Weddings in the Czech Republic - day five

Our last day in Prague started early with a tour of the old town and its famous square. This is home to two of the most popular wedding venues in Prague. The old town hall and St Nicolas Church.

The old town hall is situated next to the Astronomical clock that has a procession of the apostles every hour on the hour from 9am to 9pm and attracts visitors from around the world. I suggest you get her early before the square gets very busy.

The old town halls exterior is handsome with a beautiful glass window as its main feature. The interior is bright and modern and comfortable and can host civil weddings with seating for about 30 guests and further standing room.

The historic old town square has a vibrant atmosphere and is surrounded by designer shops, street entertainers and pretty cafes and restaurants.

Next we headed to the church of St Nicholas church on the side of the old town square, an excellent position. We were introduced to the very friendly pastor…… who told us about the building its history and about the weddings hosted at the church which can be for couples of any faith.

The church is home to a grand chandelier, beautiful stain glass windows and impressive sculptures. The church hosts concerts each afternoon so wedding ceremonies are generally held between the hours of 9am and 1pm Monday to Saturday. Each service lasts about 30 minutes and can be conducted in English, you can have a live organist and you can choose the music you wish to be played from a play list the pastor will give you during the pre-wedding meeting a day before the wedding. In some destinations the churches can be formal and quite restrictive however here at St Nicholas the emphasis is on the ceremony and the commitment that goes with is, Pastor ….. is very friendly and welcoming.

After our visit of the church we headed into old town hall, a charming collection of winding cobbled streets with quirky traditional shops selling everything from puppets to crystal next to designer shops like Gucci and Cartier. A shoppers paradise. Everywhere you look there is something new to discover, you need a few days to really explore old town and absorb the atmosphere.

While in old town we visited the new Kings Court Hotel about 18 months old. The former office block now is a luxury hotel with first class facilities an enviable position great for those wanting a city centre location during their stay in Prague.

Budda Bar Hotel
We had lunch at the Budda Bar hotel in the old town. An themed hotel with a colour scheme of deep purple and teal blue with accents of green, yellows and pinks, which in theory doesn’t work but here its quite magnificent.

In the main restaurant there is an impressive chandelier adorned with decadent crystals adding an air of luxury. The hotel was full so unfortunately we couldn’t visit any of the rooms, but we did get to visit the ….. restaurant. Once an old dancing hall it is now elaborately decorated and is home to a huge budda statue, it feels incredibly romantic and serves Pan Asian cuisine. When set up in the evening you have soft music and low lighting, perfect for a honeymoon (or proposal) dinner. I would happily stay here for a romantic weekend away!

Our final stop of the visit was Patchu Palace another member of the Mamaison group.
The hotel has a sheltered cobbled courtyard surrounded by the handsome old palace walls covered in ivy.

The courtyard can be used for ceremonies and receptions and an impressive staircase leads to an indoor area which is classically decorated and can be used for the reception dinner or drinks. A beautiful hotel for those couples wanting a luxury and stylish venue

My week in Prague was over, what a wonderful experience, I can understand why this is such a popular choice for destination weddings. In fact whilst there I saw 3 proposals.

Our 3rd day in Prague started with a 2 hour transfer to Zbiroh and a visit of the Chateau and hotel.

The approach is through a small country town and some beautiful countryside.
Chateau Zbiroh’s impressive facade is beautiful and is positioned in the middle of the town overlooking the village.
Medieval in style the main courtyard inside the chateau offers wonderful views of the countryside below and would be a beautiful outdoor venue for summer weddings where a traditional BBQ meal can be served to your guests. I can imagine simple decoration of twinkling candlelight would be perfect here.

The chateau is home to a magnificent ballroom with huge chandeliers, you immediately want to don a ball gown and twirl around the room. This is a dream like room, perfect for all those princess brides out there.

We were treated to a traditional medieval dinner served by waiters dressed in period costume. Our dinner was a BBQ served on an imitation sword, something that would really delight and surprise your guests. (as long as they wouldn’t fight after eating) the portions are plentiful so much so that a sleep following the meal would have been nice!

This venue I highly recommend for a magical chateau wedding anytime of the year, and only 30 minutes from Prague

Your can also stay in the chateau a range of rooms from standard to luxury suites can be hired if you wish to stay on the evening of the wedding or for your honeymoon.

It was then on to Karlstein and the hotel Myln a venue with a chalet feel, situated beside a lake it offers a magical countryside wedding, the ceremony and reception can be held outside on the riverbank, a beautiful setting for summer weddings.
I can also imagine a nice cosy winter wedding here as the restaurant is warmly decorated and has a cosy feel and views of the water. The hotel has 40 rooms available if you wish to stay before and after the wedding, with a chalet style interior.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The venue is also next to Karlstein castle which we unfortunately didn’t get to visit, but is apparently very popular for wedding ceremonies. The hotel and castle are only 30 minutes from Prague so ideal if you only want to visit for the day.

Next it was onto our hotel for the night. The Mamaison Riverside Hotel, a member of the small luxury hotels of the world.

The Riverside has a quirky modern art nouveau style interior and sits in an enviable position at the side of the Vltava River, the town is a 20 minute walk from the hotel and so the nights are lovely and quite yet your only a short distance from the lively town centre.

My rooms was 215 a spacious luxury room with a bright fresh interior and a large modern bathroom, it had all the comforts you expect from a good hotel room, tea and coffee facilities, large wardrobe, in room safe, sitting area and a large bath and shower. The staff here are very helpful and friendly.

We dressed for dinner in our formal attire as we had been I invited to the Zofin Palace for dinner.

Zofin palace is a magnificent building on the old town side of the Vltava River. An outside terrace overlooks the river and is a beautiful location for a drinks reception.

The venue has a range of rooms available for hire including a lovely garden conservatory which can accommodate receptions and is next to a large Gazebo which can be used for dancing or for a wedding ceremony, so lots of options here. This venue also had a great kids area set up for the younger guests with soft toys, perfect for keeping them entertained.

The palace has a beautiful foyer, with grand staircase including 2 red carpets. the venue is used to host balls and concerts throughout the year, up to 40 per season.

There are two grand ballrooms which can be hired for wedding receptions
The rooms feel grand yet romantic with large chandeliers wonderful fresco’s and picture framed walls.

The venues recommended caterers served a dinner for us so we could sample their cuisine. This is fine dining at its best, with brilliant attentive and friendly waiting staff.

With so many amazing venues seen over the last few days it’s hard to choose a favourite, but the Zofin palace is most definitely one of mine.

Wedding Report from Lara Graham (nee Bush)

We are great thank you and our wedding was fantastic. Heather, who was looking after us that day, Frances’s husband and the photographer were really helpful and made us feel very special.

We loved that we had our own glass bottom boat for just me and Luke to take us to Turtle Island whilst our guests were on a bigger boat, even though I do not think I realised how wet our feet would get! I had to hitch my dress up to my bum and try to climb down the ladder of the boat to a water level which was past my shins (I am not the tallest of people so the water level was a lot higher on me than on everyone else), but the team on the boat were very helpful in aiding and guiding me down the ladder so that I didn’t fall. I am so very glad my dress wasn’t a big dress with a huge train otherwise it would have been a bit wet!

The ceremony was absolutely lovely and the vows were perfect for us as a couple. After a few photo’s we had some time to speak to our guests and chill out a bit. We had brought some champagne with us and some plastic glasses so that everyone could enjoy a drink. We obviously made sure we tidied all our rubbish so they wouldn’t cause damage to environment. Then there were more photos, and this gave us our opportunity to add our fun little touch to the day in which we brought out the personalised knotted hankies for the men to wear and the giant multicolour sun glasses for the ladies! Very English thing to do, especially with the knotted hankies but the photos are very funny and the photographer had a giggle whilst taking the pictures.

The sun soon began go down and the light fade so it was a chance for photos in the sunset. The guests began getting on their bigger boat and after the last photo was taken we were called over by Heather to a group of people standing together looking at the floor. We wandered over to see two baby turtles that had just hatched. It was an absolutely amazing sight and it must be a very good omen for myself and Luke. It actually tied in very nicely to the music we had playing when we walked down to start the ceremony, it was Muse’s version of Feeling Good with the lyrics “it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life…” very fitting for us and the baby turtles I think! But unfortunately our guests did not get a chance to see the baby turtles, and we didn’t manage to get a photo of them, but we will always have that fabulous memory. It was a really lovely way to end our wedding day on Turtle Island.

All in all we had a magnificent holiday and wedding and I would highly recommend this to anyone. The whole day was stress free due to the planning and help from all those involved. It was really great not to worry about what had to happen next and if everyone was ok.

It feels so sad that it was over so quickly and back to England where it was so cold we immediately had to put the heating on! But a huge thanks to everyone for making the day more than we could have hoped.

Early the next morning following a quick breakfast we headed out on a small coach to Stirin a small village 1 hour from Prague

Chateau Stirin

Our first view of the Chateau was the Goudi Inspired restaurant. Not quite what we expected to see, its unusual décor is only for the adventurous that would like something that bit different for their wedding. Artis Restaurant can seat up to 100 for dinner in either a formal dinner or bbq.

For the less adventurous there is a very pretty atmospheric room on the lower ground called Sam's Hall with concave ceilings. There is also a charming Mediterranean style restaurant with lovely garden views that can host parties up to 60 people.

The chateau has a small chapel covered with deep coloured fresco’s and has a handsome altar, it can host a wedding for up to 60 people in either a religious or civil wedding ceremony.

This venue is perfect for those wanting a countryside wedding and reception amongst beautiful gardens and countryside, and this is a great venue for anyone wanting a quirky twist to surprise their guests.

Chateau Cervena Lhota

It was then back on the bus and onto Cervena Lhota a striking red chateau positioned on a picturesque lake.

The small chapel in the Chateau is decorated in shades of antique pinks and George V style furniture. The room can fit up to 80 people. This venue is available all year and I can imagine particularly lovely for summer weddings as you can make the most of the outdoor space and beautiful setting.

On the grounds is also a catholic wedding chapel accessed by a steep cobbled pathway, it is colourfully decoration with a deep blue ceiling adorned with gold stars.

Weddings can also be held outside on the grassy bank overlooking the chateau. A very pretty spot next to the lake for summer weddings.

Adjacent is a simply decorated restaurant which can host wedding dinners and receptions, you can also stay in the hotel across form the chateau which we would recommend if you marry here as you are over one hour from the centre of Prague so quite a journey in your wedding dress! A lovely weekend wedding idea perhaps.

State Chateau of Hluboka

Our last stop of the day was the State Chateau of Hluboka, a stunning fairytale style castle perfect for any princess bride. Inspired by Windsor Castle the Chateau can accommodate weddings on Fridays and Saturdays from April to September with the exception of May when the chateau is closed.

The simply decorated chapel can host religious or civil weddings and the grounds are simply breathtaking, you’ll most definitely feel like a princess here. The chateau is 1.45 minutes from the centre of Prague so you may want to host your reception in one of the local restaurants and stay in the area for the evening of the wedding.

Ruth (Diary of a Bride's) Wedding Report

Ruth and Jason Fox married at Vardioli Beach on the 29th of August 2010, Ruth has written a lovely report of her day and how she was feeling, i'm sure you will find this helpful when planning your wedding day!

We arrived on Thursday evening of 26th August 2010 at the Zante Star in Tsilivi. Poor Helen and Irene didn't know what had hit them I think. 23 people all excited about the events of the week ahead is enough to frighten anyone. We partied on until about 2am which probably wasn't the best idea as Jason and I had to meet with Francis in Tsilivi Travel at 10am.

We woke up to a good old fry up to soak up the beer and headed off to the wedding planners and to our joy it was literally a 10 minute walk from where we were staying. Francis went through what would be happening on the day, confirmed numbers and went through everything she thought we needed to know. I can actually say that I don't think she missed anything out, she was amazing. The time of the wedding was confirmed and we booked the videographer for the whole evening and Francis went through the "Storybook" photographs and the packages available and you will be pleased to know that we booked the whole lot, especially after seeing the pictures.

The morning of the wedding and early afternoon was pretty horrific for me. I'd had no sleep since we had arrived as I was really nervous and anxious and also Jason snores like you wouldnt believe. The night before I had to listen to Jason, his son Jake and Jakes friend all snoring in unison. I climbed out of bed at 7am and found a bed at the side of the pool, covered myself in towels hoping to catch a few z'ds. Clearly this wasn't going to happen with the cleaners pottering around and then Jason checking on me. Needless to say I was in the worst mood I have probably ever been in. I put this mood down to nerves!! Anyway, I went back to bed at around 10.30am and managed a couple of hours. Jason came to see me and I burst in to tears, I was a wreck. I felt much better after a cuddle from my future husband.

We were getting married at 6pm so the plan was to start getting ready at around 2pm. The girls in the Zante Star decorated my room with flowers and banners and put a bottle of champage on ice for us, which I thought was a lovely gesture and just what was needed to relax us and get us in the party mood. And to hopefully cheer me up seeing as I was about to enter the most happiest day of my life. My Mum came up to see me and I managed to control my tears as did she. Good job really as I don't think I would have stopped.

My cousin Rachel was doing mine and the bridesmaids hair so while she did Helens, the chief bridesmaids hair, I dried mine. Then while Rachel curled Fayes, my little bridesmaids hair, Helen did my nails. It was only when Rachel began to do my hair that I actually started to calm down and enjoy the whole thing. My Dad came up to my room when everyone was leaving on the coach and him Helen and I had a little glass of champagne and a moment which I will never forget.... My Dad was speechless when I put my dress on. Helen said to my Dad "Doesn't she look lovely" and all he could say was "Beautiful". How I didn't cry then I'll never know.

We made our way down the stairs (after my friend Kenny asking the owners to clean the dog poo off them). I was so embarrassed walking in to reception and waiting for Francis to arrive in the car. Eventually we were on our way and the journey is a complete blur. All I know is that I think I waffled all the way there.

We pulled up at the venue and Helen joined the other bridesmaids. Lukas the photographer and Michelle were immediatley snapping away with their cameras as I was getting out of the car. A few more pictures and then the entrance music started. My legs were like jelly but they were heading in the right direction so I suppose that was something to be thankful for. As I approached Jay, I felt tears piercing my eyes, I fought it but couldn't stop them rolling down my face. The music stopped and the registrar began the ceremony with Francis translating in English. It was literally over in minutes but those words still remain "I give this ring as a token of our everlasting love". It was short and sweet but to the point and the words were perfect. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way!!

Once all of the pictures had been taken Jason and I and our party of 47 sat down to a BBQ meal which I must say was delicious!! Typical greek style souvlaki and burgers. I don't think I heard anyone speak for about half an hour while we all tucked in to our food.

Then the speeches which I have to be honest and say I can hardly remember what was said other than my Dad kept telling me to shut up when I was trying to correct him. Jason hadn't prepared a speech so managed to come up with a few words and then handed out the presents to the best men and the bridesmaids. One of the best men, Mick, read out some of the cards and managed to bring out a few more tears only this time they weren't mine. My Mum and friend Monica had written the nicest messages I have ever heard.

Then the party started.........

About 9.30ish they played our first dance and towards the end the fireworks went off. Such a fabulous way to end our first dance and everyone sat in looking in to the sky at the beautiful colours.

As we partied through the evening, we had a few surprises. First one was one of my friends, Kenny, coming from behind the screen dressed as a woman while all the ladies were lined up for the videographers. Then my bridesmaid Helen and one of my friends, Rachael, decided they wanted to go skinny dipping in the sea. The owner of Vardioli, Spiros, thought it was such good fun that he joined in. When the girls got out of the water and got dressed he decided to pick them up and run back in to the sea with both of them. Luckily enough the bridesmaid dress wasn't ruined or he would be getting a bill!! LOL Needless to say, the male side of the party were happy to see 2 young women running around with no clothes on.

Then the night came to an end and I was gutted that it was all over. At least I have my memories and photographs of the day.........

All that remains for me to say is a huge "THANK YOU"! It was the most memorable time of my life and this wouldn't have been possible without Lisa and Francis for sorting everything out for me. You will both remain in my thoughts forever and I thank you both from the bottom of my heart for giving me the wedding I have dreamt of since I was a little girl. Everything, and I mean everything was perfect and went without a hitch. Absolutly no complaints from anyone, the whole party enjoyed every single second.

I can guarantee, anyone reading this and contemplating getting married abroad..... DO IT! You won't regret it, I promise. You will have the time of your life xxxxx

After a comfortable nights rest I decided to explore more of the hotel, the view from my room was beautiful and the weather looked promising so I headed outside to take photos before the hotel got too busy.

Following a lovely breakfast in the Monastery restaurant we headed to the foyer to meet our guides for the trip, Yana from the Czech office, Sylvie from the UK office and Olga our tour guide.

A short presentation about weddings followed where we learnt about the legalities of weddings in Prague and about the traditions of Czech weddings that couples like to add to their destination wedding and some of the most popular wedding and reception venues.

The Augustine

Katarina from the Augustine Hotel then gave us a tour of the hotel. This is one of the newest additions to the Rocco Forte Hotel chain and certainly lives up to its good reputation. Each detail in the five year restoration has been carefully considered, even the room colour schemes of green and deep pink, or orange and grey reflect the clothing of the ancient monks.

We visited two luxury suites, one which was recently used by Pink during her world tour when she stayed in the city.

The Tower suite at 3700euros per night was our next stop, the extravagant suite is for those that want complete luxury in elegant surroundings, this suite has been voted one of the best in the hotel. Its magnificent spiral staircase leads up 2 floors to a 3rd floor bedroom with panoramic views of the city, simply breathtaking!

The Augustine has a pretty outdoor sheltered terrace complete with waterfall where you can enjoy a drinks reception following your wedding and the impressive ballroom can accommodate celebration diners for up to 120 people.

Tom's bar

Next to the outdoor terrace is Tom’s bar, voted one of the most handsome bars in the world. Angels adorn the ceiling in pretty antique pink frescos’ the bar has a self named signature cocktail which must be sampled on a visit here.

A pretty corridor from Tom’s bar leads to a sheltered courtyard which wouldn’t be out of place in Italy. The tree dotted garden is wonderful for civil ceremonies, especially in the afternoon when the sun moves above the terrace and provides a pretty speckled light. The garden is home to the second oldest well in Prague and the water is still used to brew the hotels famous St Thomas beer.

Beautiful St Thomas Church

Continuing around the hotel you’ll find St Thomas’ church which is simply magnificent with generous decoration and beautiful stain glass windows and finished with a grand organ which overlooks the church from a balcony. St Thomas is a Catholic church.
Lesser town
After touring St Augustine we left to discover Lesser town, dominated by the blue dome of St Nicholas’ church in the towns square which is used these days mainly for concerts, the dome is a good base to navigate around the town as it can be seen from almost everywhere.

Lesser Towns architecture is a mish mash of all styles from Georgian to Gothic. The town is a real delight to walk around, every where you look there is something to see that is either unusual, quirky or quite beautiful.

Prague Castle sits high on the skyline and is rather dominating due its size, in the centre is the Cathedral of St Charles a gothic style building that took over 700 years to complete. A must see are the beautiful stain glass windows inside, each one by a different designer and tells a different story in a wonderful array of colours, the effect is stunning.

Aria Hotel

After our tour of the castle we headed back to Lesser town and the Aria Hotel which backs onto the Vrtbovska gardens a popular location for weddings photos and drinks receptions.

The Aria is a music themed hotel, each floor named after a popular music type from Classical to Rock and pop, the hotel even has its own music library and cinema room which can be used by hotel guests. One of its best features is the outdoor terrace which can be used for drinks receptions or for seated dinners up to 20 people, the terrace has some of the best views of Prague Castle.

We were treated to a delicious traditional Czech wedding dinner at the Code restaurant of the Aria hotel, I had
• Crunchy Little Gem Salad with Yellow Fin Tuna Tataki with Wasabi Dressing and Radish
• Crispy oven roasted Vodnany Duck Led with Organic Sauerkraut, Steamed Red Cabbage and South – Bohemian Row Potatoe Dumplings
• Small Wedding cake with Fresh Raspberries and Cram Chantilly

All enjoyed while listening to the lovely sounds of the piano played in the foyer.

After dinner we went onto to the Vrtbovska gardens which can also host civil or religious weddings in the sheltered ceremony area at the bottom of the garden. Small but beautiful the gardens are a wonderful setting for a pretty wedding and reception which is now possible after 6pm when the gardens are closed to the public.

We then made our way over the famous Charles bridge adorned with a wonderful selection of baroque statues. I made sure I touched the statue of St. John of Nepomuk which is supposed to make your wish come true.

The bridge is scattered with local traders selling everything from photographs of Prague to artists and jewellery makers.

Our boat

Our next treat was a boat ride on the Valta river stopping at a small bar situated under a bridge. Due to the size of our boat we were able to get in the smaller entrances of Prague’s waterways, a great way to enjoy the city and its architecture from the water and a completely different perspective. A lot of couples do this as a treat for their guests following the ceremony for drinks before dinner.

The guides dress in traditional sailor men’s clothing and are incredibly knowledgeable about the city and its history, their enthusiasm is contagious.

After our cruise we headed back to our hotel for a quick change and a meal in the Monastery restaurant, the outside terrace has a wonderful atmosphere at night and due to its sheltered position is used for dinner’s right up to the end of October.

Prague trip 2010

We were invited to Prague by the Czech Tourism Office as an introduction to the city and learn what is has to offer for destination wedding couples. As Prague has always intrigued me I jumped at the chance, this was a perfect opportunity to see the venues and learn more about its history. Here I have recorded my visit, most of these venues will soon appear on our website in more detail, this is simply a brief report about the trip.

I would like to thank the Czech Tourism office for such a wonderful visit and for really taking excellent care of us during our stay, especially thank you to Katarina and Sylvie from the UK office, Yana from the Prague office and our wonderful and patient guide Olga!

6th of September 2010

I arrived late into Prague airport around 11pm local time after a comfortable 2 hour flight with BMI baby from Manchester.

This being my first visit to Prague I was filled with excitement and a little apprehension of what to expect, however I was pleasantly surprised to find the airport very user friendly. After leaving our airplane we made our way to passport control and bag collection and were out of the airport within 20 minutes!

Our driver took us on the 15 minutes transfer into Prague, with it being night time there was very little traffic and due to the dark we couldn't really see much, apart from the cobbled streets and trams which were everywhere giving the town an old historic feel.

We arrived at The Augustine our accommodation for the next 2 nights. The Augustine is a converted Monastery. Many of the old features have been preserved and a very simple colour scheme of white is used in the main areas, it has the feel of an art gallery about it. The handsome deep carved wood doors are originals and preserved to show how the monastery would have looked century’s ago. A selection of artwork is dotted around the hotel, along with a series of black and white photographs of monks at work and doing every day tasks offering an insight into the history of the building.

My room was 332 on the 3rd floor and had magnificent tall ceilings and an elegant colour scheme of green and deep pink. The room had elegant wooden floors with a design reflecting the 20th century avant-garde art cubism movement, from the comfy chairs to the artwork and accessories.

My bathroom was perfect, elegant beige marble, his and her sinks, separate walk in shower and a large inviting bath, which unfortunately due to our busy schedule I didn’t have time to test!

I almost let out a small gasp when the final set of doors in my suite led to a walk in wardrobe, even Carrie Bradshaw would have been proud! The small details like real coat hangers and space to hang my clothes comfortably and not have to look at my case for the stay sets this hotel apart from the rest. (After all clothes and shoes are a girl’s best friend)

I honestly couldn't think of a more perfect place to enjoy your honeymoon, this hotel offers an air of elegance, while being discreet and comfortable and is perfect for those that appreciate art and design.

Although this hotel is 5 star it doesn’t have the stuffy feel of some other 5 star hotels, the staff are very welcoming, warm and friendly and very knowledgeable about the hotel and its history as I discovered when the bellboy that showed me to my room was excited to share its history.

On returning back to the UK, he became a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (qualifying for an ‘early bird’ certificate by completing his studies within a year) and worked as a Network Technician for seven years.
He has created and developed the website for The Bridal Consultant, and continues to optimise and update its content.

Our opening weekend takes place on the 2nd and 3rd of July, with flowing champagne, nibbles and cakes, raffles and lots of special offers for anyone who comes along and books a holiday on the Friday or Saturday.
